Dear Colleagues, in our second webinar for 2026 and second episode of the “Clinical Endodontics - Master Series” scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 20:00, Nikos Tzimas, Endodontist, will be covering the topic: “Mechanical Preparation of the Root Canal System - Contemporary Clinical Approaches”. This webinar is a collaboration of the Hellenic Association of Endodontists and the Dental Association of Imathia. Attendees will be credited 1,5 CE credits (MEEO). The language of the webinar will be Greek.
Abstract
Mechanical preparation of the root canal system is a fundamental step in endodontic treatment, aiming to shape the canal in a manner that facilitates effective cleaning, disinfection, and subsequent obturation. This process relies on a thorough understanding of root canal anatomy and on the correct sequencing of clinical procedures.
The purpose of this online presentation is to analyze the basic principles of mechanical preparation as a critical stage following access cavity preparation. Topics include access refinement, working length determination and verification, as well as the core concepts of engine-driven instrumentation, with reference to contemporary file systems and endodontic motors.
The theoretical framework is complemented by clinical cases, practical tips, and strategies for managing common clinical scenarios. Reference is also made to mechanical preparation during non-surgical root canal retreatment, and to the role of CBCT imaging and the dental operating microscope in achieving predictable, safe, and adequate preparation.

Nikos Tzimas
Nikolaos Tzimas was born and raised in Veria, Greece. He graduated from the Dental School of Comenius University in Bratislava in 2014 and completed the Postgraduate Program in Endodontics at the Dental School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2022.
Since 2019, his practice has been limited exclusively to Endodontics. He is a member of the Dental Association of Imathia, the Hellenic Association of Endodontists, and the American Association of Endodontists. Since 2026 he has been in private practice limited to Endodontics in Thermi. Thessaloniki, Greece.
