Abstract
With the evolution of the technique and the success rate of dental implants, the question often arises among clinicians, whether a specific case should be treated with root canal treatment or with a dental implant. Given the disparity of literature between dental implants and root canal treatment tooth cases and the relative lack of documented results on the indications and contraindications of dental implants in relation to root canal treatment, treatment planning for such cases can become a complex process.
There are many problems regarding the choice between these two treatment regimens because they are fundamentally different and there are different ways of assessing the therapeutic effect that prevent direct comparison.Factors that should be considered include patient (systemic and oral health), tooth- and periodontal-related factors and factors related to the treatment.
The complexity of this question requires the existence of long-term, extensive and clearly defined studies, where with simple and clear measurements, such as survival with defined protocols, they will be able to measure the clinical performance of each of the treatments.
